Privacy

What smoothst collects, why, and how to get rid of it. Written from what the code actually does, not from a template.

Who is responsible

smoothst is operated by [your name or company, and a contact address]. That is the data controller for everything on this page. Questions, corrections and deletion requests go to [contact email].

We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office under [registration number].

What we collect

Things we deliberately do not do

These were design decisions, and they are worth stating plainly because they are unusual:

• Check-ins are spot-level, never GPS-level. The app records which spot you said you were at, not where you are.
• Recorded routes are trimmed by 200 m at both ends, so a route can never start at your front door. A ride shorter than that saves nothing at all.
• Home area is free text — "South East London", never a pin on your house.
• Rating coordinates are never exposed to other users. They exist only so the server can confirm you were there, and they stay on the server.
• No analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixels, no third-party cookies. If that ever changes you will be asked first, with a real choice.

What is stored on your device

All of this is strictly necessary for the app to work, so none of it needs a cookie banner under PECR:

• Your sign-in token, so you stay signed in.
• The last map position, so it opens where you left it.
• Cached map data and the app itself, so it works with no signal.
• If you use the app without an account, your own spots and ratings — on your device only, never sent anywhere.

Who else sees your data

• Other users see your handle, your ratings and anything you post. That is the point of a shared map.
• Supabase hosts the database, in the EU (Ireland).
• Cloudflare serves the app itself.
• OpenFreeMap and OpenStreetMap serve the map tiles and the underlying map data. They see the tile requests your browser makes, as any map does.

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it. Email [contact email] and we will respond within one month.

Deleting your account removes your profile, your email and your recorded routes. Ratings and reports you left are anonymised rather than removed, because deleting them would silently change the safety information other skaters are relying on. If you want them gone entirely, say so and we will remove them.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

Plenty of skaters are under 18. smoothst is not designed for children under 13 and we do not knowingly hold their data. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, tell us and we will remove it.

Changes

If this notice changes in a way that matters, you will be told in the app rather than by a quiet edit to this page.
